Insight for Employers: Employees Are More Likely to Apply for Jobs Offering Cannabis Benefits

As more states legalize the use of cannabis, it can be challenging for employers to keep up and find reliable information. A recent Benefits Pro article, Employees are more likely to apply for jobs that offer cannabis benefits, shares findings from an EO Care survey exploring cannabis care as an employee benefit — as well as perspectives from EO Care Cofounder & CEO Sean Collins and VP of Employer Solutions Brent Bannerman.

The survey showed that 56% of employees in states where cannabis is legal would be more likely to apply for jobs at companies offering cannabis care benefits. Among the other findings: 18% have used cannabis for health reasons, 88 % of medical cannabis users say it reduced their use of prescription drugs, alcohol, or both. Two thirds would feel more comfortable using cannabis with clinical oversight, and 44% would reconsider applying for a job at a company that tested for prior use of cannabis or prohibited cannabis outside of the workplace.

EO Care Co-founder & CEO Sean Collins said, “finding clinical guidance for medicinal cannabis is difficult, because most doctors lack the knowledge and retail dispensaries are not equipped to provide medical advice. As a result, we have tens of millions of Americans using cannabis for health reasons without guidance on specific product recommendations, dosage amounts, possible drug interactions, or consideration of their health history and other potential health risks.”

VP of Employer Solutions Brent Bannerman said, “EO Care is a key benefit for employees using medicinal cannabis, because the benefit provides a resource for employees to access clinical guidance, care plans, and product advice that heretofore was unavailable.” He continued, “with the right medicinal cannabis guidance, employers have an opportunity to help their employees, improve health outcomes, and be progressive leaders in offering this important benefit that employees will come to expect.”
